The Mysterious Hero

Outmatched and Outclassed

Ma Junior decides to show Krillin a taste of his true power. Dark clouds roll in as Piccolo charges his energy, and the atmosphere around the arena shifts. In a shocking display, Piccolo extends his arm across the entire ring, grabs Krillin from a distance, and delivers a punishing series of blows. He hurls Krillin into the air, and when Krillin retaliates with a Kamehameha, it strikes only an afterimage. Piccolo slams Krillin back to the ring surface with devastating force. Though still conscious, Krillin is too battered to stand and wisely forfeits the match. Goku helps his friend out of the ring, and Piccolo privately reassesses his plans, noting that world domination may not come as easily as he assumed.

The fourth quarterfinal brings Yamcha against the peculiar Hero, whom everyone dismisses as a lucky fool. Yajirobe is the only spectator who believes Hero will win, and Goku senses something unusual about the man. Hero accidentally lands a kidney shot on Yamcha, then causes further embarrassment through seemingly clumsy movements. But Master Roshi recognizes the truth: Hero's clumsiness is an act. When Hero reveals his genuine speed and skill, he blocks Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist and begins to systematically educate him in the ring.

Demon's Reach, Hidden Strength

Piccolo's stretching arm attack is the first demonstration of his Namekian abilities in the tournament, grabbing Krillin from across the ring with no warning. The storm clouds that gather during the exchange underscore the unnatural power at play. Krillin's decision to forfeit shows maturity rather than weakness. In stark contrast, the Yamcha vs. Hero match opens with comedy as Hero bumbles through accidental hits. The shift comes when Hero drops the act and reveals speed that matches the best fighters present. Roshi confirms what he suspected, and Yajirobe watches with quiet satisfaction.

Two Faces of the Tournament

This episode contrasts raw, terrifying power with hidden skill operating behind a disguise. Piccolo's stretching arm technique previews the Namekian abilities that will become central later in the franchise. Krillin's loss, while lopsided, establishes just how dangerous Piccolo truly is. Meanwhile, Hero's fight with Yamcha begins peeling back layers on a character whose true identity will soon shake the tournament to its core. Master Roshi's flashback to first meeting Krillin adds emotional weight to his student's defeat.
