The Birth of a Destroyer

After Frieza and Android 17 seemingly defeat Top in a combined beam struggle, the Pride Trooper refuses to stay down. Stripped of his uniform and driven to the brink, Top makes a profound choice: he abandons his lifelong commitment to justice and embraces the power of destruction. His eyes glow purple, a destructive aura envelops him, and the crest of a God of Destruction materializes on his chest. Belmod confirms that Top was always the candidate to succeed him, and Marcarita acknowledges the fruits of Top's training under her guidance.

The transformation is immediately devastating. Frieza's Golden Death Beam, a technique that has humbled gods, is completely nullified by Top's destructive aura. Beerus recognizes the Power of Destruction as something reserved exclusively for Gods of Destruction, making Top's access to it unprecedented for a mortal combatant. Top's first target is Frieza, whom he overwhelms with Energy of Destruction in a blast that cracks the arena itself. When Top turns his attention to Android 17, even the android's signature barriers shatter under the enhanced attacks.

Beerus provides critical analysis from the bleachers: Top surrounds himself in a barrier of destructive energy that prevents direct contact, and while he needs time to charge his Energy of Destruction, he remains protected during the process. Android 17 survives through agility and quick thinking, deflecting one blast that nearly strikes the spectator area. Frieza's return to the fight, battered but defiant, provides temporary relief, but Top's power proves absolute. He demolishes Frieza's Super Death Ball with a mere spark of destruction energy and thrashes the emperor physically before tossing him out of bounds. Only Android 17's quick reflexes, throwing a rock to alter Frieza's trajectory, keep him barely on the arena's edge. Alone against a Destroyer, 17 refuses to surrender.

Justice Abandoned, Power Embraced

Top's transformation represents one of the tournament's most compelling character moments. Throughout the series, he defined himself through his devotion to justice, making it his identity as a Pride Trooper. His decision to cast that identity aside reveals the depth of his commitment to protecting Universe 11. When survival and ideals conflict, Top chooses survival, not out of selfishness but out of duty to the people he has sworn to protect.

This choice sets up a direct philosophical contrast with Vegeta, who will soon face Top while clinging tightly to his own pride and promises. The episode frames the question clearly: is it strength gained through abandoning your principles, or strength fueled by holding onto them, that ultimately prevails?

Android 17 Stands Alone

Android 17's refusal to give up against a fighter wielding god-level destructive power exemplifies the quiet determination that has made him one of the tournament's breakout performers. He cannot match Top in raw strength, he cannot pierce the destructive barrier, and his strongest techniques have been shattered. Yet he keeps fighting, buying time and seeking any advantage.

With five minutes remaining, the battlefield has reached its most dire configuration. Top's Destroyer Form has neutralized both Frieza and 17, while Jiren continues to battle Goku and Vegeta. The balance of power has tilted sharply toward Universe 11.
