Vegeta's sacrifice proves futile as Majin Buu regenerates from scattered pieces and restores Babidi as well. With their strongest fighters gone, Piccolo pins Earth's last hope on Goten and Trunks and sends them to the Lookout.
The shockwave from Vegeta's self-destruction is so powerful that it causes the aircraft carrying Bulma, Chi-Chi, and the other spectators to malfunction mid-flight. The engines stall and the plane drops into a freefall before Android 18 catches it and stabilizes the craft with her superhuman strength. Inside the cabin, Bulma feels a sharp, unexplainable pang deep in her chest. She cannot explain the sensation logically, but something in her heart knows that Vegeta is gone. It is the kind of premonition that transcends science and reason, a wife's instinct cutting through the noise of the crisis around her.
On the ground, the blast zone from Vegeta's Final Explosion stretches for miles in every direction. Piccolo arrives at the crater expecting to find nothing but scorched earth and silence. Instead, he watches in mounting horror as tiny fragments of pink flesh begin to stir across the devastation. Each piece gravitates toward the others like magnets, merging, expanding, and reshaping until Majin Buu stands whole once again. Not a scratch remains on his body. The explosion that cost Vegeta his life, the most powerful attack the Saiyan prince ever produced, was not even a meaningful inconvenience for the Majin. Piccolo's blood runs cold at the sight.
To make matters considerably worse, Buu demonstrates another terrifying ability. He uses his restorative powers to heal Babidi, regenerating the wizard's severed body and bringing him back to full health. The mastermind behind Buu's entire revival scheme is once again in command, and together the pair poses an even greater threat than either would alone. Babidi provides direction and cunning while Buu provides the unstoppable destructive force. Piccolo realizes with sinking dread that brute force alone will never stop this creature. An entirely new approach, something no one has considered yet, will be needed if Earth is to have any chance of surviving what is coming next.
With Vegeta dead, Gohan presumed lost, and Goku still unconscious from Vegeta's sucker punch, Piccolo is forced to make the most critical tactical decision of the entire crisis. He instructs Krillin to take Goten and Trunks to the Lookout immediately, bypassing every other concern. These two boys, young and untested as they are, represent Earth's only remaining chance for survival. There is no backup plan and no cavalry coming. Meanwhile, Goku finally awakens from his forced unconsciousness, orients himself, and makes his way to the Lookout to assess the catastrophic damage and determine what viable options remain for the surviving fighters.
