The Innards of Buu

EpisodeEp. 273

Vegito allows himself to be absorbed by Super Buu, shielding himself with a Saiyan energy barrier on the way down. Once inside, the Potara fusion unexpectedly breaks apart, separating Goku and Vegeta. The two Saiyans destroy their earrings and begin a treacherous journey through Buu's body to find their sons and Piccolo.

Absorbed by Design

Kibito Kai is devastated, convinced that Vegito's absorption means the universe is doomed. But Old Kai notices something crucial: Super Buu has not taken on any of Vegito's traits. Every previous absorption changed Buu's appearance and personality, yet this time he looks exactly the same. That means Vegito was never truly absorbed at all.

Inside Buu's body, the truth is revealed. Vegito projected a Saiyan Shield around himself before being engulfed, protecting his body from digestion. The entire absorption was deliberate. Old Kai realizes the fused warrior intentionally got swallowed so he could locate and rescue Gohan, Gotenks, and Piccolo from within.

The Fusion Breaks

When Vegito lowers his barrier inside Buu's body, a violent burst of energy erupts and tears the fusion apart. Goku and Vegeta find themselves standing separately, confused and disoriented. Neither can explain why the Potara, said to be permanent, suddenly failed. Vegeta wastes no time crushing his earring, and despite Goku's protests, he makes it clear he has no intention of ever fusing again.

Goku reluctantly destroys his own earring and agrees to focus on the mission. The two Saiyans are now deep inside Super Buu with no way to fuse, no Potara to fall back on, and nothing but their individual strength to rely on. Outside, Buu rampages through a city, celebrating his apparent victory while Mr. Satan shouts at Dende to do something.

A Stomach-Turning Odyssey

Navigating Buu's interior proves to be as dangerous as fighting him from the outside. Goku and Vegeta stumble into the creature's stomach, a churning pit of candy, sweets, and corrosive digestive acid. Vegeta climbs out quickly, but Goku lingers too long and nearly gets dissolved before Vegeta yells at him to move.

The two Saiyans press deeper into the bizarre organic labyrinth, trading insults and reluctant teamwork in equal measure. When swarms of green digestive enzymes attack them, the situation grows dire. Episode 273 pairs high-stakes danger with comedic banter between Goku and Vegeta, capturing the unlikely partnership at its most entertaining as they fight their way through the strangest battlefield of the entire series.
