EpisodeEp. 262

Gotenks' Super Saiyan 3 power fades at the worst possible moment, leaving him helpless against Super Buu. Gohan unleashes his Ultimate form for the first time, says a final goodbye to his father, and is transported to Earth by Kibito to join the fight.

Power Runs Dry

Gotenks presses his advantage against Super Buu, careful to steer the battle away from any areas where Dragon Balls might be hidden. Piccolo warns that destroying the Dragon Balls would make it impossible to revive everyone Buu has killed. The fight moves to an abandoned, ruined city where Super Buu levels what little remains with a single enormous blast.

Gotenks appears to gain the upper hand and prepares to finish Buu with a Kamehameha, but at that critical instant his Super Saiyan 3 transformation gives out. His power plummets back to base level, and every attack he throws afterward bounces harmlessly off Super Buu.

The Ultimate Awakening

On the Sacred World of the Kai, Goku anxiously asks Old Kai whether the power unlock is complete. Old Kai casually mentions he finished five to ten minutes ago. When Gohan asks how to access his new strength, Old Kai tells him it works just like transforming into a Super Saiyan. Gohan powers up, and the resulting energy output stuns everyone present. His power far surpasses anything they have ever witnessed.

Goku embraces his son one final time, telling Gohan that this will be their last meeting. Kibito prepares to transport Gohan to Earth, and at Gohan's request, uses his magic to outfit him in a gi identical to his father's.

A New Warrior Descends

Back on the battlefield, Gotenks refuses to accept defeat and keeps fighting in his base form, but Super Buu treats him like a ragdoll. The fusion timer finally expires just as Buu fires a devastating Calamity Blaster. Goten and Trunks barely separate in time and are forced to flee with Piccolo.

Gohan arrives on Earth, powered up and dressed in his father's colors. He senses the dire situation and heads toward the battlefield at full speed. For the first time since Buu's rampage began, the tide may be about to turn. The episode closes with Gohan streaking across the sky, ready to confront Super Buu with power the monster has never encountered.
