Tony Tony Chopper

For most of the series Chopper appears as a toddler-sized blend of reindeer and human, though his Devil Fruit lets him reshape himself to suit the moment. A metal brace rings the base of his left antler, which had to be reattached after a brutal clash with the bull that once led his former herd, an encounter during his boyhood hunt for the Amiudake. He usually sports a tall, fuzzy pink hat marked with a sideways medical cross, a gift from Hiriluk, along with maroon shorts and a striking blue nose. As Oda's art softened and readers fixated on his cuteness, his favored "Brain Point" form took on bigger eyes, a rounder head, and a softer muzzle. A running gag has people mistaking him for a tanuki in this shape and for a gorilla in his bulky Heavy Point. After the two-year timeskip he grows leaner, his fur shifts from brown toward gold, and he adds a buckled blue cap over the old pink one.

Chopper's guiding ambition is to travel across the whole world and become a healer able to cure any disease, a goal rooted in his upbringing among physicians. His endearing looks are a recurring note in the story, with many characters, women and men alike, openly charmed by how cute he is.

Chopper is a reindeer who took on the Hito Hito no Mi's power, a Zoan Devil Fruit that grants transformation into a human hybrid, and he learned the craft of medicine on Drum Island under two guardians, the doctors Hiriluk and Kureha. He became the fifth person to sign on with Monkey D. Luffy, joining as the group's sixth member at the close of the Drum Island Arc. On Long Ring Long Land, he was briefly handed over to the Foxy Pirates before quickly rejoining Luffy. His first bounty, a mere 50 Berries, came after Enies Lobby when he was mistaken for the crew's pet; it later climbed to 100 following Dressrosa and then to 1,000 after the Raid on Onigashima. He now counts as a senior officer within the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.
